Separately, I received a press release on the both the NEX-FS100 and the HXR-NX70 rain- and dust-proof camcorder:
Sony Expands its NXCAM Family of Products
New NXCAM Super 35mm Sensor Camcorder and “Rain and Dust Proof” Compact Camcorder Deliver Unprecedented Capabilities for Professionals
PARK RIDGE, N.J., March 23, 2011—Sony Electronics is unveiling the newest additions to its NXCAM® family of professional video products: the NEX-FS100U, an E-mount camcorder equipped with a Super 35mm CMOS sensor, and the compact HXR-NX70U, the industry’s first rain- and dust-proof professional HD camcorder. The new camcorders join Sony’s existing NXCAM model HXR-NX5U to deliver an impressive range of options, creativity and flexibility for production professionals.
“These new camcorders fill an important void in the digital handheld production market,” said Bob Ott, vice president of product marketing and management for Sony Electronics. “They combine affordability and high performance with a rich, ‘distinctive’ look for a range of applications – including commercial video, music video and many others.”
First premiered to the public a few months ago as a prototype, the NEX-FS100U Super 35mm camcorder is equipped with an Exmor™ Super35 CMOS Sensor. The large-format sensor’s high sensitivity enables it to produce footage with shallow depth of field similar to that of a film camera.
The sensor also features the optimum number of effective pixels for shooting HD moving images. At a high 60fps in all-pixel scan mode, this allows images to be captured with less color aliasing, jaggedness and rolling shutter than DSLR cameras, while providing the sensitivity necessary for shooting at a minimum illumination of 0.28lux (when using a fixed shutter speed of 1/30, auto gain and an iris setting of F1.4). Another advantage of Exmor technology is minimal noise when shooting low-light scenes.
The NEX-FS100U adopts the Sony E-mount interchangeable lens system. The camcorder’s very short flange back distance (the distance between the lens mount and sensor surfaces) allows various Sony A-mount lenses to be used via a mount adaptor (LA-EA1). It is also possible to attach a range of other lenses, using compatible third-party mount adaptors.
The NEX-FS100UK lens kit model comes supplied with the E18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS zoom Lens which gives users optical SteadyShot™ and auto focus. The SEL18200 lens supplied with the NEX-FS100UK enables shooting in illumination as low as 1.5lux when using a fixed shutter speed of 1/30, auto gain and auto iris.
The NEX-FS100U also accepts affordable and readily available compatible SD, SDHC and SDXC cards, and Memory Stick PRO Duo™. It is capable of recording images at various frame rates providing the added creative freedom of Slow and Quick motion with full HD. The camera operator can simply adjust the frame rate without using converters or editing software. The grip, handle and hybrid LCD viewfinder are detachable, making it ideal for handheld scenes and shooting in confined locations.
HXR-NX70U - first dust- and rain-proof professional HD camcorder
The main unit of the HXR-NX70U has been proven to reach dust-proof and rain-proof performance requirements, specified by IEC60529 IP54. Sudden rain or dust will not affect the camcorder’s operation, allowing the HXR-NX70U to perform in even the most challenging shooting environments.
The ultra-compact HXR-NX70U incorporates an Exmor R CMOS sensor to deliver superior quality low-light footage and enhanced manual controls to give the precision pro shooters need when capturing high-quality HD content. The camcorder also features a 96GB internal memory.
CinemaTone™ technology captures stunning footage with deeper, more film-like color tones and the wide angle Sony G™ lens can take in more of the action, producing sharp images with brilliantly accurate color reproduction. The optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode compensates for greater degrees of camera shake to deliver smooth video from wide angle to full telephoto perspectives. A built-in GPS receiver makes the HXR-NX70U an ideal choice for journalists and documentary makers as it gives them the ability to “geotag” footage when on location.

Each of the new camcorders is planned to be available between July and September 2011, at the following suggested list prices:
• NEX-FS100U (without lens) - $5,850
• NEX-FS100UK (with lens) - $6,550
• HXR-NX70U - $3,200
Sony’s press release states a later release timeframe than Jon Fauer’s pre-earthquake info does; presumably the delay is due to the difficulties following the disaster.

Sony NEX-FS100: La Nueva Videocámara de 35mm con lentes intercambiables AVCHD NXCAM HDMI 4:2:2

Un cambio en las reglas del juego la nueva NEX-FS100 es Sony en su mejor cara

The NEX-FS100E is a new E-mount professional camcorder equipped with a Super 35mm motion picture sensor and is a further addition to Sony’s 35mm line-up.

The NEX-FS100UK is an interchangeable lens camcorder featuring a Super 35mm sensor equivalent in size to Super35mm film like that used in the PMW-F3, and a Sony E-Mount 18 to 200mm zoom lens. Developed specifically as a digital motion camcorder it is capable of producing footage with shallow depth of field similar to that of a film camera and capture with high image fidelity.

Highlights:

  • The NEX-FS100UK is includes a Sony 18 ~200mm E-Mount lens. Sony's E-mount interchangeable lenses feature precision-crafted optics with aspherical glass elements for compact high performance, and circular iris mechanisms for smooth background defocusing. The supplied SEL18200(E 18–200mm F3.5–6.3 OSS) with the NEX-FS100UK boasts 11x zoom power, a quiet AF motor for cleaner sound recording, and Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization with an advanced Active mode that lets you take steady handheld shots while walking around — even without a bulky stabilization rig.
  • Equipped with a large CMOS sensor equivalent in size to Super35mm film like that used in the PMW-F3, it is able to create a rich bokeh effect (beautifully defocused image) to produce the much-desired shallow-focus look associated with top-shelf commercials and feature films. The sensor also features the optimum number of effective pixels for shooting HD moving images. This new sensor is designed with outstanding exposure latitude and sensitivity to deliver extraordinary HD images subtle in detail and color gradation while avoiding image artifacts typical of HDSLRs.. A tape measure hook and an image sensor position index on the body marks the position of the focal plane.
  • 35mm E-Mount Interchangeable Lens System. The NXCAM Super35 features a Sony E-mount Interchangeable lens system. Due to the adoption of the E-mount interchangeable lens system, a great variety of current and future E-mount lenses from various lens manufacturers (Sony Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma and Cosina) are compatible. Thanks to its unusually shallow flange focal distance virtually any 35mm lens can be mounted via third-party adapters. Furthermore, “α” A-mount lenses can be mounted via Sony’s LA-EA1 adapter to electrically control iris and autofocus functions.
  • 1920x1080P Slow and Quick Motion (Over & Under Cranking). Recording images at a different frame rate from that used for playback provides the extra versatility of slow and quick motion shooting. The NEX-FS100 enables Full HD (1920×1080) progressive slow and quick motion. S&Q shooting plus last scene review permits checking the S&Q effects on-set, immediately after shooting the scene without drilling down menus.
  • Build-up modular design. Featuring a compact, lightweight body with detachable grip, handle, and viewfinder tube, the NXCAM Super35 can be configured for a wide range of shooting situations. To facilitate hand-held shooting, the angle of the handgrip can be positioned 360 degrees as desired and the LCD Panel can rotate for left or right side operation. Furthermore, there are numerous 1/4- and 3/8-inch screw holes on both the handle and the camera body for mounting the camera or attaching various peripheral devices.
  • Sharp, large and bright 3.5 XtraFine™ LCD/ View finder. Located on the optical axis, the 3.5-inch-type XtraFine LCD panel enables easier, more intuitive framing, especially during hand-held shooting. And the LCD panel can be rotated for stress-free operation from either side of the camera. For easier, more precise focusing, a large Viewfinder tube with 1.2x magnifier is supplied to convert the LCD into a superb viewfinder.
  • Flexible recording media. Recording to the directly mountable HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory unit allows continuous recording for over 10 hours without changing the recording medium. Simultaneous recording using memory cards and other media is also possible for secure backup when shooting footage that can't be reshot.
  • HDMI Output with Embedded Time code for 4:2:2 Uncompressed digital output. For extra convenience when using external recorders, the NEX-FS100 provides an HDMI Output with Embedded Time code and pull down markers Signal Output al Output.

Sony PMW-F3 Targets Indie Filmmakers | Studio Daily

Targeting Filmmakers

Sony didn't say how much the dual-link software upgrade would cost, but the company is clearly pricing the camera aggressively to go after the same independent-filmmaking market that has been courted by Red Digital Cinema, not to mention the high-end Canon DSLRs that are all the rage among filmmakers seeking shallow depth-of-field effects. The full 35mm sensor will give filmmakers cinema-style control over their field of focus.

Out of the box, the F3 will support 10-bit 4:2:2 1080 50p and 59.94p over HD-SDI. But with the optional firmware upgrade, due within a year, the F3 will also support full RGB 1080 23.98p, 25p and 29.97PsF recording with Sony's proprietary S-Log gamma. (Hyper Gamma will be available in this mode as well.)
Asked at a press briefing exactly what audience the F3 is targeted at, Sony's Tatsuro Kurachi, group marketing manager for broadcast and professional AV, responded, "We want every SRW-9000 renter to own this camera," referring to Sony's one-piece HDCAM-SR camcorder. Sony's Peter Crithary, marketing manager for production, immediately clarified, "If you have a first-unit F35 or SRW-9000, this would be a perfect second camera."

Wide-angle G Lens
The HXR-MC2000E comes equipped with a sophisticated G Lens that incorporates Sony's unique optical design technology and quality control, delivering exceptional performance on a par with some of the best lenses in the industry. The HXR-MC2000E itself is optimised to perfectly complement the G Lens with an advanced image sensor and Sony’s famous image processing technology. This improves picture performance whether zooming in on the action, or getting a perspective on the big picture with the 29.8 mm wide angle in Video mode (35mm equivalent).

Exmor® CMOS Sensor with ClearVid Array
The HXR-MC2000E’s Exmor R® CMOS sensor is capable of producing superb image quality even in low-light conditions. Sony’s unique imaging system incorporates exclusive back-illuminated technology that doubles sensitivity compared to conventional CMOS sensors, providing a dramatic boost in low-light performance. Autofocus technology is also enhanced to perform better in low-light conditions, so the G-lens can quickly achieve sharp focus on a moving subject. This superb performance in dimly indoor scenes and outdoor night scenes is matched by excellent results in bright daylight.

Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode
This feature ensures smooth movement while recording footage in many challenging shooting situations. In addition, Sony’s innovative 3-Way Shake-Canceling technology adds electronic roll stability for even smoother video capture. This latest version of image stabilisation technology realizes images that are up to 10x steadier for wide angle shooting than conventional Optical SteadyShot images. As the user zooms in, an intelligent digital image stabiliser starts to blend in and work together with its optical counterpart to effectively reduce camera shake. This technology also reduces shake in the rolling direction that commonly occurs when shooting while walking.

Manual Lens Ring with Assignable Parameters
Using the assignable lens ring, users can manually adjust key parameters like Focus, White Balance, Exposure, AE Shift, Iris priority and Shutter Speed priority. Users can control the G Lens iris to create an out-of-focus effect in the foreground or background. Shutter-speed can also be controlled to create special effects, such as the flowing motion of a waterfall or bird wings in flight etc.

Long Operating Time with infoLITHIUM-L Series Battery
The HXR-MC2000E camcorder uses standard infoLITHIUM L series batteries, which are compatible with many of Sony Professional’s camcorders and accessories. The largest capacity battery (NP-F970) provides a maximum operating time of approximately 13 hours using AVCHD recording in FH mode.

Ergonomic Handle & Controls
The ergonomically designed handle contains a convenient record button and zoom control, essential for low position shooting. There are also cold shoes on the front and rear of the handle, which allow for the attachment of two different types of accessories.

Flexible Operation with Consumer Memory Cards
The HXR-MC2000E supports recording directly onto Memory Stick Pro Duo or SD/SDHC cards (please see Specifications for compatible memory cards). This makes it convenient and economical to obtain new media in almost any location. In addition, a large capacity 64GB solid-state memory comes built into the camcorder body. This combination of removable and built-in memory is especially convenient when shooting a corporate event or wedding on the move. When content has been backed up to a HDD or downloaded to a PC for editing, you can simply reuse both the removable memory cards and internal memory for your next assignment.

AVCHD – Ideal for Memory Recording
AVCHD is a highly efficient data compression format which greatly reduces memory requirements, maximizing the benefits of file-based recording with high image quality in a small file size. This is made possible by the exceptionally efficient MPEG4 AVC/H.264 codec. Many consumer electronic devices already support AVCHD playback, and more are on the way. Numerous major NLE software programs feature AVCHD input and editing.

MPEG-2 for SD (Standard Definition) Recording Format
The HXR-MC2000E’s Standard Definition recording format is MPEG-2, which is the same compression codec as standard DVD video discs. If your project will end up on DVD, then using this format can save you production time and maintain the original image quality.

DVDirect & Direct Copy
When the camcorder is connected to the optional DVDirect Express (VRD-P1) DVD writer via a USB cable, a single press of the One Touch Disk button is all it takes to burn video footage directly onto a DVD - without using a PC. This model is also equipped with a down-conversion function that enables DVD burning to SD picture quality. Users can playback a DVD they just created simply by pressing the Play button on the DVDirect Express when the camcorder is connected.

With Direct Copy you also have the option of quickly and easily backing up valuable video data on an external hard disk drive, HDD - without using a PC. Simply connect the camcorder using the supplied USB Adaptor Cable (VMC-UAM1).

Experience a new dimension of photo excitement with this summer’s colourful additions to the Cyber-shot™ family of digital cameras from Sony.
Beautifully slim, light and easy to use, the Cyber-shot™ WX5 and TX9 boast exciting new features for outstanding still picture quality compared with conventional compact cameras. Capable of shooting detail-packed Full HD (1920 x 1080, 50i) AVCHD movie clips, they’re also the first Cyber-shot™ cameras from Sony that can capture amazing 3D images to enjoy on any 3D-compatible TV.
Superior Auto mode: incredible low-noise imagesThe WX5 and TX9 are the first Cyber-shot™ cameras that can capture extremely low-noise images, evoking the expressive power of a digital SLR camera.

Powered by the 12.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor, Superior Auto mode captures a high-speed burst of up to six frames when you press the shutter button. Camera settings are automatically optimised according to shooting conditions. Cyber-shot™ then combines information from each frame to create an exquisite, low-noise picture with wide dynamic range, as enjoyed by DSLR photo enthusiasts.
As an extra refinement, new Background Defocus makes it easy to achieve pro-style images, similar to the results achieved with a DSLR camera and wide-aperture lens. Cyber-shot™ rapidly shoots two frames when the shutter button is pressed. Position information between the foreground and background is analysed automatically, creating a single picture with your subject in sharp focus and a beautifully blurred background. New Soft Skin mode flatters portrait subjects even further, automatically removing small wrinkles and skin blemishes for effortlessly beautiful results.

First-ever 3D Cyber-shot™ camerasFor the first time ever, 3D Sweep Panorama lets you shoot incredible 3D images without needing a bulky, complex double-lens camera system.

Just press the shutter button: the advanced Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor inside the Cyber-shot™ WX5 and TX9 captures a high-speed burst of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side. Information from up to 100 images is automatically combined to create a stereoscopic pair of frames. You can enjoy the incredible results by connecting the camera by HDMI to your 3D-compatible TV.

Cyber-shot™ offers even more exciting 3D image possibilities.  Also new this year, Sweep Multi Angle shoots a high-speed burst of fifteen frames, creating a ‘3D-style’ image of your subject that can be viewed from different angles. After shooting, just tilt the Cyber-shot™ from side to side: sensors inside the camera detect your movements, scrolling through the sequence of multi-angle frames as you tilt and view the camera’s LCD screen. Multi-angle views can also be viewed simultaneously on an ordinary 2D television as you tilt the camera.

You can also enjoy breath-taking panoramic shots with the Cyber-shot™ TX9 while you’re snorkelling or diving. Add an optional marine housing and select Underwater Sweep Panorama mode that optimises white balance for clear, natural results with underwater subjects.
Cyber-shot™ T99 – more style, more colourAlso available this summer, the beautifully sculpted Cyber-shot™ T99 is guaranteed to turn heads with a choice of gorgeous new colour options. Inside its slim, curvaceously sculpted lines there’s plenty of smart technology – from Sweep Panorama and 720p HD movie recording to new Soft Skin mode. Like the Cyber-shot™ TX9, the T99 also features new Underwater Sweep Panorama mode for extra-wide sub-aqua scenes.

The beautiful, easy to use Cyber-shot™ WX5, TX9 and T99 digital cameras by Sony are available from mid-September 2010.
